I like the K12 homeschool program so far. In the K12 homeschool program, they have loaned us a computer and printer to get the kids school work done. We have received books and for science the kids have received items to complete labs. In other homeschool programs we have used, there were no supplies for subjects like art or science. I’m so glad I found this program. I also like the fact that the kids get to learn different kinds of languages such as French, Spanish, Chinese, etc. After you are accepted into the program you will begin to receive your packages within two weeks. You will learn the curriculum and what is expected of both you and your student(s). Just be patient and take it one day at a time. I also like the fact that they are accredited.
The supplies we received from the K12 program are books, art supplies, rocks for science, cylinders, and a computer and printer. I have to say that this is the first homeschool program that we have received supplies other than books to get the work done. You know how hard it is to get science labs done without having the supplies. For science my 8th grader was given some chemicals which are normally found in your house. For art they were given paint and paint brushes. Not all things are supplied. You will have to buy some things on your own such as pencils, pens, paper, etc. But still, I think what they have supplied are more than enough. Thank you K12!!
Their curriculum I think is great. Your kids work at the pace of their comfort, they can work ahead or work on a lesson until it is mastered. You will be provided with a back office where you will log in the attendance of your student(s), check their progress and see what lessons are for the next day or that week. Your kids can work ahead if they want after mastering a lesson.
Okay, who doesn’t like flexibility? That is one of the reasons I think we have joined the K12 program. You can start your day according to your own schedule. If you have a doctor’s appointment today at said time, your kids can start school when you get back home and not have to worry about missing school or school work for that day. I think holidays across the board are the same. There is no school for those days, but if you want to complete work on that day you can. How cool is that?!!
High School: Update 2015
I have 2 older kids, 19 and 17. My 19 year old has graduated from K12 or CAVA here in California. My 17 year old is due to graduate 2015-2016 school year.
High school classes are different from the elementary and junior years. In the K-8 grade levels you teach all the classes. Although this school year 2015-2016 their assigned teacher teaches some of the lessons on the online learning school. I think that helps a lot.
For high schoolers, they have a teacher for each of their subjects and the teacher teaches those subjects and assign lessons for them to do. Again, I am soo happy for this as I don’t have to come up with lesson plans myself.
